Motive Unknown was formed by Darren Hemmings in 2011. The company's first client was a then-unknown band called alt-J, whose first album proceeded to win the Mercury Prize, BRITs nominations and more.
Since then the company has built a reputation in the music industry for its strategic digital marketing, working on a multitude of chart-topping albums, award winning venues and festivals as well as directly with forward thinking artists and managers across their whole digital business.
In more recent times the company has branched out beyond music, taking on clients in fashion, audio hardware and more.
Starting his career at Sony Music back in 1997, Darren has spent many a year studying the music business in particular, but marketing and strategy in popular culture in general too. In addition to running the company Darren is also the main force behind the Daily Digest newsletter, and co-presents the Motive Unknown Podcast alongside Kobalt's David Emery.
Matt has a background in digital marketing, technology, content production and content distribution on emerging digital platforms. He's particularly interested in digital innovation, engagement and how technology can be used to personalise interactions to effectively communicate information and ideas.
Digital Marketing Manager
Rob joined Motive Unknown as in October 2016 after working at Warner Music and Sony Red. Rob takes a prominent role in the day to day running of our digital campaigns, and works closely with clients to create new ideas.
Digital Marketing Assistant
Phil joined Motive Unknown in April 2017 from The Roundhouse. He works closely with BMG, one of our biggest clients, liaising with the digital marketing team there to deliver best-in-class digital campaigns for the company's campaigns.
