Motive Unknown is a strategic marketing agency based in the UK. Our artist clients cover anything from top-tier pop (Spice Girls, Robbie Williams, Jungle) through hip hop (Run The Jewels, AJ Tracey), electronic (Chase and Status, Eli Brown, Underworld, Moby, Notion) and more.

Our label clients take in Because (Justice, Daft Punk) Dirty Hit (The 1975, Beabadoobee), Anjunabeats (Above & Beyond), Drumcode (Adam Beyer, Eli Brown), Warp Records (Aphex Twin, Danny Brown, Flying Lotus), LuckyMe (Baauer, Hudson Mohawke), and Lex Records (MF DOOM) among others.

We also work in the creator tools space, which sees us manage £5M+ in annual media spend across clients like Beatport, Loopcloud, Plugin Boutique, UJAM, Rhodes Pianos, RoEx, BT and The Crow Hill Company.

The Role

The main function of the marketing manager role will be to manage client relationships and lead in the creation and execution of original, creative, best-in-class marketing initiatives for those clients, primarily focused on the recorded music space (i.e. labels, management companies, artists direct etc).

Key responsibilities include

  • Managing all projects with allocated clients and providing digital marketing services across organic and paid campaigns, reporting, CRM and overall online presence.
  • Managing client relationships allocated to your team.
  • Crafting best-in-class marketing strategies for our clients, in line with Motive Unknown’s core vision for marketing music in 2025.
  • Working with the rest of the team to develop effective digital marketing strategies for clients.
  • Managing the practical execution of the digital marketing campaigns for all applicable territories.
  • Staying abreast of – and evangelising – new and emerging technologies to the team and clients, for consideration within campaigns.
  • Planning ad campaigns for clients across social ad networks as applicable.
  • Overseeing the booking of ads across Facebook, Google and other social ad platforms (TikTok, Snapchat etc), but sometimes also booking directly if required.
  • Organising comprehensive reports of both top-line results and deeper data insight and delivering to respective team members.
  • Managing any line reports or service providers you are working with (e.g. assistants, agencies, freelancers).
  • Organising the delivery of all necessary ad assets (display ads, video content, other interactive assets), via third parties as required.
  • Managing client data collection and retention.
  • Ensure clients are kept informed of key developments in the online marketing space.
  • Develop relationships with key services and platforms around the online marketing space (Facebook, Google, YouTube, Tiktok etc.)

Desirable skills

  • Minimum 3 years experience working on digital marketing campaigns
  • Intelligent, diligent individual with an eye for detail
  • Great communication skills
  • Experience of analysing data
  • Proven expertise in advanced ad campaign management, data analytics, CRM, Website and digital strategy development.

Desired Technical experience:

CRM

  • Setting up new CRM accounts with fully scoped list and contact management strategy, including tags.
  • Setting up advanced automation sequences
  • Experience setting up fully scoped platform integrations with relevant social and ad platforms, as well as ecommerce with complete conversion tracking
  • Comfortable setting up and authenticating owned domains

Website

  • Project management experience in the inception and delivery of a new website build
  • Management of DNS records in key platforms such as Cloudflare

Paid Media

  • In depth knowledge of key paid media types across Google, Meta and TikTok as well as practical experience in Snapchat, Spotify, Amazon and Pinterest.
  • In depth knowledge of conversion set up across Meta and Google

Ecommerce

  • Experience in manipulating product feeds in Feed Management tools in order to optimise for the relevant platform
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of Meta and Google conversion campaigns and experience implementing strategic ecommerce funnel strategies including custom ROAS reporting. An understanding of tracking is required to verify the function of these campaigns.

Data tracking and analytics

  • Experience in establishing fully scoped data collection strategies across label and manager clients
  • Experience setting up and implementing Google Tag Manager to a technical level, including consent mode 2 and custom events
